SPISE
Single-point estimator of insulin sensitivity.
Formula:
SPISE =
600 × HDL0.185
Triglycerides0.2 × BMI1.338
Interpretation:
SPISE estimates insulin sensitivity; the original 6.61 cutoff should be interpreted within the validated population.
What is SPISE?
SPISE is a simple marker used to estimate insulin sensitivity from HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and BMI.
Clinical utility
SPISE is currently best viewed as a screening and research tool, not as a diagnostic standard. It may be useful for:
- patients with obesity;
- cardiometabolic risk assessment;
- identifying people with probable insulin resistance when fasting insulin is not available.
